Terrariums come in two different styles, Open or Enclosed.
Open Terrariums - They come in two different types >> Tropical - leafier plants or Cacti/Succulents
Tropical open-style terrariums
Please water using a spray bottle once a week, with at least 10 to 15 squirt sprays (not mister) per plant.
Heating and hot weather can dry out your terrarium quickly, so if your plants are looking dry and thirsty please spray some water more than once a week.
For open terrariums we use preserved moss/preserved lichen varieties so you don't need to water the moss or lichen, so when you do water your terrarium just focus on the plants.
Position - In a well-lit area away from direct sun. Plants stay very happy in bright environments. If you can't find an ideal spot for your terrarium please consider investing in our lights (link below). Moreover these will help promote healthy growth and reduce that unsightly leggy look in plants.
Cacti and succulent open-style terrariums
As these are dry-loving plants, squirt spray only a couple of times using a spray bottle to each plant once a week or so.
Avoid using the mister - it reduces the chance of getting water on each plant and leaves water marks on the glass.
Cacti and succulent terrariums love really bright conditions and even a little bit of direct sun would help, however if your terrarium is in a warmer area please remember to keep up with watering and possibly water a bit more than usual. You can always purchase our lights (link below) if necessary.
Enclosed Terrariums
If your terrarium is enclosed with a lid or a ball then you only need to water it once a month or so. However even after a month if you can see a little bit of condensation inside and all the plants and moss are happy, you may skip watering.
When you do water, make sure to squirt spray at least five times per plant, and then mist spray the moss.
Especially in enclosed terrariums, if you see any dead leaves or dead plants, please make sure to take them out immediately. Leaving them inside will infect all the other healthy plants and soon your terrarium will be a black mess.
Fungus growth on driftwood - This is a normal ageing process of the wood, however if you have any dead leaves or plants it may interfere with them so please monitor it carefully. You may also take it out and clean it thoroughly before putting it back in, or not put it back at all. Please note wood pieces etc... are all extras.
Same goes for any lichen that you see in enclosed terrariums.
Lastly, please locate your enclosed terrarium in a well-lit area away from direct sun. This is really important. The more brighter it is, the fewer problems you'll encounter.
Eternal terrariums
If you have one of our Eternal terrariums, you don't need to do anything - they should last forever. Please don't leave your terrarium in sunny locations or where it can get wet.
If in doubt please contact us to double check which style of terrarium you own.
Some general information
Sometimes plants tend to move towards the light. If this happens, rotate the terrarium once a week to encourage the plants to face the ideal direction and to encourage even growth. If this is happening to your plants it means the plants in your terrarium aren't happy with the current location. Please move your terrarium to a much brighter location or add one of our lights.
<>
Fertilising is not really needed, however if you would like to, go ahead. Fertilising annually may provide extra nutrients to the plants.
<>
If your terrarium is an enclosed one, please monitor it very carefully for a couple of days to see how well the plants are doing. Some plants tend to rot if the moisture and the humidity are very high. It’s always safe to open the lid a couple of times a week if you are worried (especially in summer).
<>
Also for open terrariums, even though we advise you to water only once a week, if your terrarium is located in a warm location you may need to water at least twice a week. Also, if it's in a cooler/darker location you may need to cut down watering to prevent any rot/mould issues. You just need to find the right balance.
<>
Pruning - The plants in your terrarium aren't going to stay the same size, especially the tropical styles. To keep your terrarium plants small you need to prune them regularly to prevent them overgrowing. This is really important. Our tools (link below) will help to get the job done neatly. It's a therapeutic activity to do and you only need to cut off the longer stems.
<>
Bugs in your terrarium - This is completely natural and can be an issue especially for enclosed terrariums. Please purchase a plant friendly insect spray from your local garden centre and spray inside the terrarium to mitigate the issue. You might need to re-spray again after a couple of weeks. We use this brand at the store - Yates Scale Gun

Terrarium repairs - Unfortunately this isn't something we can help you with. However it's something that you need to learn sooner or later. Simply take the dead plant/plants out of the terrarium and replace with new ones. These days any garden centres sell little terrarium plants. Experiment with it - some plants are much hardier than others. The more you learn the better you'll become at keeping your terrarium alive. You'll soon become terrarium experts like us.

Crystal Air Plants
Using the mist setting on your spray bottle, please spray once a week or so, just to the plant/plants. Locate in an indoor area away from direct sun and drafty areas in your home/office. Air plants love humidity; to create this environment simply place it inside a glass container.

Please note, these are only general instructions. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Will the plants live?
If you look after them, they will enjoy a long lifespan. However we can't make any guarantees as to how long they will live. We are happy to give our best instructions on how to look after them, we can guarantee that!
Will the plants grow?
Not much - some plants will stay pretty much the same size. Some plants grow faster than others, but don't worry - they won't become huge trees inside your terrarium. You can always snip out the tall stems with scissors if you don't like them. Otherwise, you can leave them as they are and let the jungle grow if you're happy with the wild lush look.
How long will the plants last? How many days, years and months?
Unfortunately the plants that we use in our terrariums don't come with a certificate that indicates their life span. Even we humans don't know how long we'll live for - the same goes for plants.
However all our plants are known to last a long time. A general estimation would be five years, but this could stretch significantly lower or higher.
Are terrariums for everyone?
Absolutely anyone can own a terrarium, as long as you're willing to learn about the plants in your terrarium and look after them carefully. However if you've never owned a plant in your life or compare a terrarium to an everyday object and expect it to last forever exactly as you received it, then a terrarium definitely isn't for you.
I've got my own container! Would you be able to fill it with plants?
Unfortunately, we no longer provide this service. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Help! Help! My terrarium is growing mould (white dots).
Please note this problem usually happens when your terrarium is wetter than it's meant to be! Open the lid and let it dry out a little. Please react as soon as you see any tiny white dots. Don't wait until mould covers the whole terrarium. There are many natural remedies to fix this problem, including plant-friendly mould killers.
